OVERVIEW OF APPLICATION
Step 1: Clean the pool surface area and get it ready to apply paint (DAY 1)
- Aged plaster should be checked for integrity. Check for hollow, weak and crumbling plaster and repair the plaster before painting.
- Use Ramuc Clean & Prep Solution to clean the surface by following the directions on the container. The product degrease and dissolve mineral deposits, increases porosity that create maximum adhesion. Unlike other acid-based cleaners, Ramuc Clean & Prep Solution neutralises when diluted with water and is safe to use near plants and grass.
- Use a pressure washer to remove loose material, debris and dirt.
- If surface is exceptionally hard, we recommend sanding with an #80 grit sandpaper to create surface profile prior to applying the first coat of epoxy.
- New concrete and plaster surfaces must be cured and dry for 28 days prior to painting.
Step 2: Check surface dryness
CONDENSATION TEST: After all cleaning is complete, allow the surface to dry. Average time varies according to climate and porosity of the substrate.
- Tape 50 cm x 50 cm pieces of transparent plastic to areas in the deep end wall, floor and several other areas of the pool.
- Wait 4 hours during daytime to determine if condensation has formed underneath the plastic.
- If condensation is evident, the surface is not dry enough to paint. Remove the plastic and wait 24 hours to perform the test again and continue until no condensation forms.
- This ensures that the surface is dry enough to apply paint.
Step 3: Paint the first coat
- Ensure that no rain is expected during the next 36 hours before painting starts.
- Optional, but recommended: Use masking tape to cover inlet spouts and mosaic tiles that should not be painted
- Follow directions on containers.
- The paint is supplied in 2 parts. The mixing ratio is 1 to 1.
- Thus, 1 part A is mixed with 1 part B.
- Mix the 2 parts well together and apply the entire mix within 3 hours. In other words, the potlife of the product is 3 hours.
- No rain or water should be allowed during painting or the initial drying period onto the surface.
- IMPORTANT: Ensure that garden irrigation and all watering systems nearby the pool are turned off.
Step 4: Re-coat with a second coat
- After 16 hours and no longer than 72 hours after completion of the first coat, painting of the final (second) coat should be done.
- Ensure that no rain or water come in contact with the painted surface for 6 hours after painting
Step 5: Allow the epoxy painted outdoor pools to cure for 7 days after painting
- Painted surface will be touch-dry in a few hours, but in order for the epoxy to harden and cure it should be kept dry for at least 7 days
- If rain occurs during the 7 day drying period, sponge dry after every occurrence of rain and add more drying time
- The drying time for indoor pools is 14 days
Step 6: Fill the swimming pool with water
- Fill the pool with water
- Ensure chemical water balance as for marble plaster surfaces, of which the most important parameters to test and adjust is the following:
-
- Keep the Total Alkalinity (TA) between 80 and 120 ppm (parts per million)
- The pH should be kept between 7.2 and 7,6
- The level of Free Chlorine should be maintained between 1 and 3 ppm
